The other day I was quite surprised to realize that with the 8+ altered clocks I have done, none were for me. I either gifted or sold all the ones I have done over the years and wanted one of my very own for my studio.
This is not a full tutorial. I chose to do only a few step out photos for this clock because how you build and fill the inside, is all about what you have. I just wanted to share a couple of the steps I had taken to get the outer look and pieces I used for it all to come together.
Did you know that Collage paper works AWESOME with a gel plate? Well it does 🙂 and the effects are so cool because of how the paper becomes transparent after you apply glue. I didn’t quite know what direction I was going at this point so I made a few different kinds of prints while the gel plate was out. The prints were made by brayering Distress Squeezed Lemonade, Liquitex Indian Yellow and Titanium White through TH Stencil THS002 onto the plate then using Collage Plain Paper, Halloween and Specialty Stamping Paper to do the pulls. I didn’t end up using the Halloween Collage Paper print but that is okay, will be used in the future I am sure ❤
Apply the collage paper onto the clock parts in segments to keep the collage medium really wet. I do this the same way I explain it in this video at about the 6:09 mark if you would like to visually see what works for me.
One last step out photo is using the negative die cut piece of the hearts, texture paste, palette knife and stenciled through onto Mummy Cloth. Allow to dry, than hand color hearts.
Here it is all done, I love how this will remind me that no matter what I am going through; if I ‘Listen, Trust, Follow’ my heart things will be okay.
A few close ups with product details ….
The inside of the clock is done with the same thought of layers as this Christmas clock back, middle and front. The back has the Specialty Stamping Paper print, stamped and a few small hearts. Middle has large faceted heart with hearts hanging from top with clear string. Front layer has Mixed Media 660220 gel plate print on black cardstock and quote chips and small faceted heart .
Top cluster is double sided Red Metallic Hearts die cut from Heartfelt 660233 with some coiled 20g wire that was colored with Alcohol Ink Pitch Black. Around the bells I cut a strip of 3/16″ red metallic, adhered Hardware Heads and distressed.
I hope I have inspired you to gather up some of your supplies and make a clock today 🙂
Have a blessed day,
