I am happy to share my art journal page that I created to enter into ‘By Airmail’ challenge over at Frilly and Funkie. You can find details here along with some really inspirational work.
There has been a ton of social media activity with alcohol inks (especially in the FB Tim Holtz Addicts Group ~ which I have recently become a moderator for. The groups has over 20,000 members, established more than 3 years and has tons of inspiration). I knew I wanted to use some in this project, so I pulled out some Dura-Lar clear film. Along with AI in Red Pepper, Stream, Mushroom and Snowcap.
I first used Mushroom by adding a few drops then used a brayer to disperse color. I was going for a muted look along with a heavy edge of ink. I wanted to try a technique that I watched on the JogglesDotCom YT channel and needed the edges.
When the edges of ink are almost dry and still tacky, place down a foil sheet and rub. Pull up and the tacky areas grab the foiling. Isn’t this soooo cool! I love the look!
For this I ran some cardboard from a shipping box through the Vagabond using Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlit Mixed Media #2. It did not go cut through the cardboard, which is why I chose a thicker piece of cardboard. I then brayered some DP in Candied Apple and Broken China.
I used a pick and tweezers to remove the top layer of cardboard (sorry for the blurry pic)
Lightly ‘skipped’ the brayer over the top with Chalky Finish in Whisper. This color is really close to paper used in the Dylusions journal & TH tags. I usually like DP Antique Linen but am out at the moment. I loved how the the red and blue DP popped out from underneath for a chippy affect.
Just for a tad of interest and to tie the rose gold foil on the film with this piece, I added the alcohol ink mixative Rose Gold with a brush randomly in the cut areas of the cardboard, it added a subtle shimmer.
I then glued pieces of TH Idea-ology Tissue Wrap – Postale onto pages in the journal. The tissue was still a bit too bold, so I toned it down with watered down whisper.
Added all the pieces together and there you have it 🙂 Here are some close ups …
For the charm, I added TH rub ons to a scrap of Ranger mixed media cardstock then inserted to the back of the charm to add the glass element to the collage, pulling in the gloss from the film. Blue strips are packaging material from my Sketchbox, Added some TH ephemera and chit chat strip.
I used TH Paris Postmark embossing folder on another scrap piece of MM paper and inked up using DI peacock feathers, candied apple then Distress crayon with black soot to make embossing pop. In this shot you can also see the foiling, it really add a great interest that the camera isn’t picking up so well.
Thank yo for viewing and as always, have a blessed day!!!
