Hello friends, it has been awhile, sorry. I had been playing around with some canvas paintings and I don’t feel strong enough to share those here, yet. I needed to take a break from them and get back to what I have the most experience in, paper 😉 And just my luck, Frilly and Funkie blog had a fun challenge going on ‘Knock on Wood’ here is what Suzz had to say …

“Hi There! Suzz here with the next challenge! I decided to challenge everyone with adding a touch of wood to your art this challenge. For this challenge you need to dig through your crafty stash and look for some type of wood to incorporate into your art. This can be any kind of wooden object like a wood spool, a wood button, a mini ruler or even a branch”.

I actually ended up doing two projects because I had so much on my desk and wanted to use up as much as I could. Hopefully one of them will inspire you to get out some of your wood stash. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Project 2 ~

 

 

This started as packaging for a washi tape kit that I picked up at my local dollar store. It is 2″ deep and knew without a doubt I would use it at some point! I made photo copies of a piece of 7 Gypsies paper I had for three reasons 1) the card-stock was too thick to lay nicely 2) I needed enough to cover whole box inside and out 3) the scale of the print was a little too big.

Wood planks from Hobby Lobby stacked with TH Letterpress blocks dipped in Liquitex unbleached titanium and all glued together with heavy gel medium. Butterflies are from TH Idea-ology botanical ephemera pack. I used TH washi tape on the edges of the box, they were quite thick.

Here I dirtied up a TH clamp and new quote token with alcohol ink. I then used the clamp and clipped it onto an Idea-ology fragment, used Golden Heavy gel medium and glued it on it’s edge. After it was dried I used a little TH collage medium to stick down a little moss to hide a larger clump of gel medium. I really liked how this turned out, I wanted something in this area because it was so bare but didn’t want to hide any of the natural elements that were going on behind it.

The top fennel and legs were all pieces of wood that I had in my stash. I didn’t have exactly what I was looking for, so I added a few different pieces together. I then put layers of distress paint, sanded and inked. Finishing up with distress crackle paint.

In the back corner I added some dried pussy willow branches that I had removed from my tree last year. The back wall is a piece of the TH Wallflower Paper stash Vellum 6 x 6 panel cut down to fit.

And finally, I added a dangling piece to add a few more textures to the piece. Some mica attached with a THI index clip, a new THI story stick, mini cork top with a THI eyelet and all attached with a THI loop pin.

I kept feeling like I should add more to this project but in the end decided that simplicity is perfect for this.
