Each month on the Wanderlust art journey I am participating in, a new theme is introduced for inspiration and this month is castles. In the past I haven’t thought to look at castles for inspiration but am super excited to have this whole world opened up to me. The aged textures, colors and feel totally get me in a creative mood. I can’t wait to see where this takes me 😉
I wanted my first project to be based around one of my favorite shows ‘Outlander’ and Craigh na Dun (where Claire travels through time). After a search on Pinterest, I found the site of Dunalastair Estates where the scenes are shot.
This is pretty much the first layer. You can see my reference photo in the upper left corner, isn’t it gorgeous 😉 I do hope to travel to Scotland someday.
I was really drawn to this ref picture because of the sporadic horizon and the glow of the sun that is behind the tree. Plus I am very new to watercolor so to get the glow effect was a challenge. I may not have nailed it but I may just be framing this 9 x 12 painting.
Thank you for viewing and have a blessed day!
FRAME it! If you don’t mail it to me, and I will! New to watercolors??? One would never guess that! Words fail me, because I am so very impressed with your version of this gorgeous photo. Hard to tell them apart! You are so talented! Hugs!
