Hello friends! To get me kicked off into full force holiday crafting, I decided to participate in Linda Coughlin’s (owner of Funkie Junkie, my favorite online store) challenge ’12 Tags of Christmas’. You can find details here. Basically, Linda creates a tag each week and you create whatever inspires you from the tag, then you share on her blog. Easy~peasy.
Tag #1 WIP
Linda’s tag inspired me to use my awesome santa stamp from Stampers Anonymous the Tim Holtz Collection ‘Letters to Santa’ CMS053. He has such a vintage feel to him that I felt Distress Ink (DI) in worn lipstick and frayed burlap would work perfectly.
Nothing real tricky here, just layered and splattered. There is a great shimmer from a layer of perfect pearls that isn’t really showing in the photos.
The unexpected element of this tag is adding alcohol ink in mushroom to help tone down the sparkle of the TH washi tape.
I have to confess, I actually made three total using this stamp (all completely different) and narrowed it down to this one, who knows I may end up adding pics of the other two.
11/28/2017 here are the other two alternates.
I was excited to see Linda’s bright red tag and went off running! I also choose to use TH tile alphas for Joy. I layered paper from TH paper stash then ran through a sewing machine for some stitching, along with red core stock through crocodile embossing folder.
Added a little sparkle and my tag is complete.
How lucky am I!!! I received the silhouettes and music sheet in a thank you goody bag, so I got to use exactly what Linda did. Although, I really wanted to change things up for mine so I thought ‘why not use purple cuz it is totally not a Christmas color’. The background is a mix if all the hues of purple in the distress line along with a little squeezed lemonade and wild honey.
The only music note stamp I have is a reverse so I used jet black archival on a Darice embossing folder to get the notes the correct way. I then cut out a piece of purple core card stock and grunged it up a bit. This really has a bunch of warmth to it and is definitely unexpected. TY for the awesome TY gift treat bags, Linda ~ another reason I love Funkie Junkie.
Tag #5 WIP
I decided on a card for this one. Although Linda’s was much different, she inspired me to use TH Deco sheets and die cut into cardstock and use the negative space. I also thought that DI worn lipstick and cracked pistachio would accent the silver nicely. The die cut is one of TH mixed media thinlits. After smooshing the ink, I then used a blending tool through snowflake stencil THS050.
Peace is a TH thinlit that was cut from watercolor cardstock and silver embossing powder. Love how the texture turned out. The photo is showing that splotch as almost black but it is actually a puddle of brushed pewter mica spray (love that stuff).
My attempt at trying to capture the gorgeous sparkles that the deco paper gives off.
Linda really inspired me to make plaid with the TH stripes stencil THS 095. Hers was much more bold a elegant. After the glitter of #6 my mind was wanting to play a bit with gold. I loved the technique and will definitely be trying it again soon.
I did three layers for the plaid ~ antique linen first on diagonal, brushed corduroy on the opposite diagonal and then straight down with picket fence. Don’t throw away those TY treat bags that you get from FJ, that is what I used here as the base for the word stamp from ‘Letters to Santa’. I love how delicate the polka dots were on the bag.
Snowflake thinlits embossed with Lindy’s gang ‘King Midas Gold’ added some nice glitz for this embellishment area. A few of my vintage buttons finished them off.
Well, I am off to link these up and work on the few that need finishing………
11/28/2017 …. I will be making individual posts for the remainder of my tags, that way I can get more detailed with my process and link back will be easier, I hope you continue viewing.
As always, thank you and I appreciate you!
