Timeworn Santa *Top 3 Pick FJB

So the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog has done it again and motivated me again with an interesting challenge. Timeworn you can find the details here.

I had just received my first set of the Tim Holtz Etcetera Tags in the medium sized.

I took inspiration from Kath Stewart and pieced some of the Christmas paper stash, then machine stitched for added texture.

I had a few things in my stash ~ a metal plate by Artful Minds from Michael’s. I antiqued it a bit more with Alcohol ink in Mushroom and gold. I used collage medium crazing on the image. Great story about this image, I had received it as ephemera in a ty goodie bag with a purchase from Funkie Junkie Boutique  . I loved it so much that I emailed Linda (owner) to ask where I could purchase more. Linda replied that she searches and finds them on the internet, then sends me a pdf for me to use. That is some awesome customer service! Ok, back to the project, lol. The ‘S’ is part of the mixed media line from Hobby Lobby. I dirtied that up with paint, vintage collage medium and ink. I also glued the metal plate onto 1/2′ square wood blocks to give it tons of dimension.

The base of the banner is canvas that was sprayed with Antique Linen. I die cut copies of vintage sheet music with a snowflake framelit. I also mixed candied apple distress paint with texture paste crackle. Once dried I cut apart the letters and glued them on top of the layer. I sprayed extra thin muslin, lace and cotton twine with antique linen & vintage photo. Once dry I tied them in between the layered letters.

I antiqued the santa following Richelle Christensen blog post (californiaartgirl). I actually borrowed my TH brush tree from a fairy scene of mine that was outside, so it was already antiqued for me 😉 I used college medium and rock candy glitter to sparkle it up. Then just hot glued some sticks together that worked perfectly for the items to sit on. I also had stamped the burlap ‘s’ with SA silhouette christmas stamp with archival.

I cut greenery from watercolor cardstock and go directly ink pad to paper to both sides. I then mist with water. I used all the greens each on different greenery pieces. For me it is less ‘fiddly’ if I glue them to a base (this happens to be the packaging that comes in texture fade packaging – great rectangle foam pieces).

Glueing to the base, really makes the greenery fluffy for me. I then mixed candy apple glitter dust into collage medium then used a embossing tool to add to the berries on the greenery. This was exactly what I was looking for, I wanted a slight shimmer and red without it completely taking over all the greenery. I mixed up way more than needed so I stenciled the remained through and will use on another project.

For the chipboard clock (Blue Fern Studios) I did the TH Tarnished technique but used god instead of silver. Gave a great aged look and resembles the metal plate that it was adhered to.

The snowflakes were die cut from white paper, inked with antique linen, inked with versamark, embossing sticky powder and then used Ranger foil sheets in gold. I have a antique collection of buttons~ it was tough using them but now they can be visually enjoyed, lol.
